5.1       Review and critique at least one short film production

FENCES, 2016, dir. Denzel Washington

The movie title is Fences, (2016) it’s written by August Wilson, directed and produced by Denzel Washington. The film stars Denzel Washington (Troy), viola Davis (rose), Jovan Adepo (Cory) and so on. Fences is a Drama with a strong plot, tremendous dialog and great acting skills.

The story is about a family living in 1950’s, Troy Maxson lives with his wife Rose and their son Cory in America. He works with his friend Bono as waste collector. Troy left home when he was 14 and became a robber. He killed a man while he is robbing and went jail for many years.

Troy builds a fence around their house, Cory is helping him, Cory asks troy why he don’t like him, Troy asks him back 

“what law is there said I got to like you” he continues,

“I do everything for you because it’s my duty to take care of you”.

This scene is perfect.

Troy is cheating on rose with Alberta, Troy revealed the truth when Alberta becoming pregnant. Rose cries. Months later Alberta dies in child birth. Troy brings his baby daughter home, and Rose agrees to raise her.

I find fences greater than I expected. As a drama fences have a big message. Story is easy to follow, dialog is artistic and inspirational, the best thing in the film is its very realistic plot and it visualise perfect. There are no special effects but awesome cinematography.

Denzel Washington (Troy) and Rose Maxson (Viola Davis) are best characters on their part. Their emotions are realistic. Camera work also beautiful, different camera angle and Perfect continuity, the background and the director have done good job on mise en scene   the cars, street, costume are great.

I recommend you this movie to watch, especially young people. Fences could inspire you and change your life. Enjoy it.
