Working Relationships

3.1     Explain the importance of teamwork when working on a film production

The different teams in my production is the writers, director, cinematographer, sound and light and in post-production the editor.

First, we together bring an idea and we start writing our ideas, then the writer wrote the script and the director and cinematographer discuss about how the film shoot, and finally the cinematographer plan the shot list and it was great discussion between the director and the cinematographer. Until the last day of shooting everybody was participate in preparing for the shot.

During post-production the director and editor was sat together, and they were working together to decide which shot to cut and how the sound and colour is going to be.

Teamwork is important because, in film production everybody has different skills and experience, all the roles is important if work together, that is why individual work cannot win in film making, everyone is good in different aspects.

We worked together on bringing the idea, and we worked well in editing, me and the editor was working together, and we discuss to decide about final cutting, music, and colour.

If there isn’t good teamwork the film is lead by one perspective and the director can’t do anything alone, and the result will be extremely bad.

When we start developing the idea the teamwork was weak. Two people only responsible to write and complete the script, it would be better if everybody work together and obviously the weakness of teamwork affect our script, it was not impressive enough.

3.2 Identify the qualities needed to work well with others

How did you show the following, give examples?

Good timekeeping; I was responsible for my work, so I was always on time and I tried managing the time. For example, on the shooting day I was a cinematographer and I tried my best to finish all my shots before 4 o’clock and yes, I managed the time very well.  So, I can say I am good timekeeper.

Being reliable; firstly, I am reliable to myself, because I want to be confident about myself to be trusted, so when I say that I have an idea about camera angle, editing or any idea my team always listened to me and they believe in me.

Sharing ideas; from the beginning of the project we all were discussed about details to improve the film, so sharing idea was our best qualities; for example, me and my team shared our ideas about the shot types, and it was creative.

Good communication; me and my team was communicating very well, we respect each other, we share our ideas and we listened each other and this communication improvised our film.

Safe working; as a cinematographer I care about the lighting, wires and all the equipment’s that might cause harm, So I really care about everybody’s safety.

3.3 Describe how you worked with others collaboratively on your film production

I worked with my team to shot the best picture and sound, I know I am not good at explaining things in English, but I tried my best to express my ideas with my crew and they were all open minded; for example me and the sound crew were work together to record the best sound and our relationship was great.

Were there any problems you needed to overcome? Give examples

Everything was awesome, no problem.

How could you improve your ability to work with others?

Improvement is all about learning new things and its easy to learn from your team or anyone who is beside you. If you have intimate relationship with your team you can learn a lot about what they know, or you can improve your knowledge about film making.
